Introducing Zodiac—next generation of localized file sharingJuly 29, 2020 by wpengine Zodiac is a file-sharing engine that’s part of Gravity™—a revolutionary device architecture that ads intelligence to a network and enables an unparalleled level of sharing, streaming, and data-sending between local devices. In this demonstration, we have five Google Pixel 3a phones all with Gravity installed. Through Gravity’s Sense and Connect™ feature, these phones instantly connect and create an ad-hoc, direct Wi-Fi, mesh network—this allows Zodiac to quickly and securely share files of any kind with no internet or router required. Hyper-sharing capabilitiesTo illustrate Zodiac’s limitless sharing, we first share a file between two Pixel phones but then increase the number of devices.Throughout the demonstration, you can see that Zodiac easily shares a file to five phones as it does to one phone. The sharing is instant and effortless. Gravity enables hyper-connectivity so you can share one file to one phone, one file to many phones or multiple files to multiple phones. Connections remain open for frequent/repeat sharingThe connection Zodiac creates between devices also remains open, so if you’re needing to frequently send files to a device, you don’t have to re-establish the connection like you would with Airdrop or Quick Share—which close and disconnect after the transfer is completed. Even when Gravity-enabled devices are inactive, the connection remains open. Omni-directional sharingZodiac is also unique in its ability to transfer files multi-directionally. Sharing isn’t limited to just one host device initiating with another device, every Gravity-enabled device can swap files in an unlimited number of configurations, ensuring smooth collaboration and communication. We demonstrate this by sending a file back and forth between devices with ease.Gravity VS Competitive Sharing ServicesCurrently, competitive local sharing services like Apple’s Airdrop are limited to sharing one file to one other phone or device. Samsung’s Quick Share can share a file with to up to 5 phones, (when it works). Both services are known to be unreliable at times and can experience some lag time during transfer. Whether you’re sharing an Excel doc with co-workers in an open office or a 3GB video with a client at a coffee shop, Gravity’s Zodiac engine breaks open the limits of local file sharing and improves your ability to share the content that matters most.
